This is the CT River about 8-10 miles from where it empties into the Long Island Sound. Many years, this area will not freeze over – the tides will push the relatively warm ocean water that far inland.

Though it’s late January, this fishing shack is still only waiting in the wings; either the ice is not yet thick enough or the road to the ice might not be completely passable (see below).

And this is what #2 looks like inside. Note the wood stove, crucial to the whole endeavor; you definitely want to be warm when you’re sitting around in sub zero windchill.
