Taken on 35mm slide film some thirty years ago; this was one of my friend Mike Hamer’s favorite shots of the area where he was born and raised.

An old favorite, taken with 35mm slide film, a good hundred yards offshore.

Early morning on the cove; the main street in town is out behind those buildings.

Another view looking out toward North Cove; the title is a direct quote from a neighbor of ours on the renovation of this property, and its recent selling price.

Old Saybrook is one beautiful town, situated as it is at the mouth of the CT River. Here’s one of our favorite destinations for morning walks, about a half mile from where we live.

The soundtrack for this one was Ry Cooder’s new album Prodigal Son. It’s just a beautiful set of songs, with my favorite on first listen being ‘Jesus and Woody”. He’s one of my longtime musical heroes, for sure.

Taken at the 34th annual “Vintage Treasures” boat show at the Connecticut River Museum last night.

Really, these boats were part of a local estate sale!! This just happened to be Part I – only the outdoor stuff. The man who lived here seemed quite adept at building and fixing things, as evidenced by the tools available, some of the comments overheard about those tools, and all the items for sale (including a tent load of outboard motors, perhaps ten of them, all lined up as in a retail display). “He’s down in Georgia now” was about the only bit of personal info I picked up from one of the estate sales guys.

Gotta love this “farm truck” – a 1969 Chevy C20, 350 V8 – waiting for the season to turn.

There will probably be a few more snowfalls here in western MA, but the sun is getting higher and warmer, and in fact, there is now a four hour window for Vitamin D via sun exposure at this location (10AM-2PM, courtesy of dminder smartphone app). It would be nice to have a small three sided greenhouse for sunbathing this time of the year, to help with the wind; I saw a four sided one recently at Ocean State Job Lot for $40.

Brings to mind that old Michael Hurley tune, Blue Navigator. And while you’re at it, check out Wildegeeses, which is perhaps the better soundtrack for this photo. The man was making “Americana” music long before it became known as such. Truly an American original, both a wonderful musician and visual artist (those are his paintings on his album covers); all in all, a real treasure.

Long ago, I shared a stage with him, at Tuner’s Bar in St. Albans VT. He had asked, very politely, if he could go up on one of our breaks. He proceeded to wrap a sheet around his body and a towel around his head, and went off into ten minutes of something or other – I got to wondering if we would ever get the stage back. I happened to be standing next to a woman at the bar who turned out to be his girlfriend; she had some tomatoes and said “You know, I was supposed to throw these at him, but I don’t think I can do it.”
